Add-on canoe seat has built-in motor mount for trolling motor. Drop in, tighten clamps. No-tool installation! Fits anywhere on canoe. (See note below in full description about steering effect of a motor that is farther forward.)
As an added bonus, this canoe seat accepts a variety of other accessories we offer on SailboatsToGo.com, such as slip-on wheels, rowing outriggers, pontoon outriggers or leeboards (these other accessories are not included -- only the motor mount is -- but are available). But it's a great seat even if you never use it with accessories. Motor mount is removable easily.
Adjusts to fit the canoe at the place where you want it. Works with all different types of gunwales. Clamps tight with no tools. Remove or reposition in seconds. Resilient foam seat. Stainless steel hardware. Anodized aluminum tubing. Motor mount is all aluminum. Details: seat pad is 8 x 14 inches. Seat frame width adjusts to fit canoes as narrow as 22 inches or as wide as 38 inches. Wider available on request. The seat height is 2 inches below the top edge of the canoe. Very, very strong. We don't have a tested weight capacity, but this is probably the strongest seat on the market.
Note about steering: Canoe will not steer well if motor is too far forward, because steering depends on pushing the stern to the side while the bow more or less stays put, thus re-orienting the way the canoe is pointing. If you put a motor half way between bow and stern, the motor will just slide the canoe sideways when you try to turn, since the pivoting-of-the-boat action you need for steering will be totally nullified. The solution is either to keep the seat fairly far back or add a leeboard (a fin in the water) up front. These are available from us in a clamp-on arrangement, but not included. Another solution would be to have a person in the bow who holds a paddle in the water to act as a pivot point, just like a leeboard.
